I made bias tape for the first time today. I have stayed away from project requiring bias tape my whole sewing life. I hate bias tape. It’s stiff, not anywhere near as nice as the fabrics I use. It only comes in basic colors, for the most part, and rarely can I find one that matches my projects. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner, but while reading Amy Karol’s book “Bend-the-rules Sewing”, I was struck with the obviousness of the solution. She has instructions explaining how to make your own bias tape. The instructions were pretty easy to follow, though I made one mistake that I’ll share with you. I was drawing my lines on the pretty side of the fabric, so when I went to line the lines up at the end, it didn’t work well, and I had to re-draw them on the backside. I suppose using the backside seems obvious, but since one of the main reasons I sew, is to look at pretty fabric, that is not what occured to me.
I used the bias tape to finish off a little dress I made for my daughter. I’ll take a picture of it when I get a chance.

[...] break for a bit of sewing…This is a reversible wrap around dress. I used handmade bias tape (I’m turning into a bias tape junkie now that I know how to make my own). This dress is so fun! The fact it’s reversible makes it not only twice as many dresses, but [...]
