Another knitting break for a bit of sewing…This is a reversible wrap around dress. I used handmade bias tape (I’m turning into a bias tape junkie now that I know how to make my own). This dress is so fun! The fact it’s reversible makes it not only twice as many dresses, but if she makes a mess on the one side, I can turn it around and BAM! clean baby. The Brown floral and Orange dots are both from Amy Butler, and the orange flowers are from Joel Dewberry. I love the combo, but I am very partial to orange!

Sweater update: I am done the body, the seams are stitch, there need to be 4 more ties made, ties need to be sew on, strings need to be woven in, and blocking…then done! So hoping for eye candy tomorrow!

That is fantastic! Love your fabric choices.

I just scanned your blog. I love the orange sweater! And your knobs! Awesome! And that picture of the baby wrapped up in all hand-knitted things is so cute!

[...] I’ll work on a photo tutorial for those who are visual. The baby wore it with the dress I made a while back. ADORABLE!! (Side note, don’t let small children wear jewelry, especially around the [...]
That wrap dress is adorable. Is it from a pattern? I would love to know how to find a pattern or how to make it. My nieces would look so cute in matching ones.
Thank you L. It’s a pattern I made up. I have been toying with doing a tutorial on how to make a pattern and then the dress. It’s a great dress because they can wear it as a dress, and then as they get older, it can be worn with jeans as a shirt. It’s a fun use of fabric too, all the options. I will work on figuring out a tutorial for it.
Opps, I posted about this on your most recent entry, probably should have been here, sorry! LOVE the dress! Have been trying ot recreate it for the past 2 days but I’m stuck. Inside out the dress is looking good but once turned rightside out, it’s no longer resembling a dress. I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with the armholes. While fabric was right to right I sewed all edges, including armholes, leaving space to turn at the bottom. I just got a sewing machine for Christmas and this is my first attempt at making clothes with it. Any help is appreciated. You have very good taste!
Okay, I have said I was going to do a tutorial and I will try very hard to get one done for this dress. It’s been a big hit, and is the number one blog entry that people find this blog through.
Mathgeek, it is a bit of a puzzle and the problem you are having is that you need to stitch the arm holes only. Then you turn it right side out and there is a couple stages to stitching the remaining seams. I will have to take pictures because I can’t describe it easily. If you don’t mind shelfing it for a couple days, I’ll try to get one made by the end of this weekend, and I’ll photograph my steps. Congrats on your new machine! Very cool.
Thanks for the hint! Once I took out all the seams I started over with just the armholes and the rest just kind of worked itself out. I’d still love to see your tutorial to see if there is some easier way than what I did. Here’s how mine turned out.
Not too bad for a first timer. Thanks again!
I don’t see the image! I’m disappointed, I wanted to see it. I’m glad it worked out! Now use your scraps to make a matching necklace. I finally got the necklace tutorial up, you will find it in my most recent post! I hope you get the image to upload!
Cool! I can’t wait to do the necklace and make more dresses! I found out on accident (when my son, who just turned 4, tried it on, jealous that I’m not making him something I figure) that the dress will make a cute top when she’s older too! See if this works: http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o292/mama2rori/temp/IMG_2769.jpg
Love the dress too! I found your blog googling for reversible infant dress patterns. Can’t wait to see what else you’ve done! Also, I would love to see your tutorial for this dress!
Beautiful!

I would be very interested in your tutorial for the reversible wrap dress for my grand-daughter, too. Loved your examples and in awe of Mathgeek!
Sue, here is the link to a later post that includes the tutorial. Mathgeek did a great job, didn’t she!?
