I have thoroughly enjoyed knitting using patterns created by folks with more experience, then I, with the craft. I am quite pleased with my execution skills, but I’m not too quick to vary patterns to personalize them…unless I have consulted the wonderful people from my most favorite LYS (for those in the NH Seacoast area, that would be Spinning Yarns in Dover). They are very willing to impart the knowledge they’ve collected through their many years of knitting, but I feel like I should be able to do some of this on my own by now, considering all they’ve imparted to me.
My daughter loves little dolls. She has two dolls that were purchased by her grandmother at a craft fair, which are constructed from two little socks per doll. Very basic and simple, but she loves them. So I decided to try making a little doll for her, with no pattern to draw from. I find she likes armless dolls, and I think the most adorable, and famous, of those are the Matryoshka dolls of Russia. I find them popping up on Etsy a lot, as well, and thought they would be fun to design.
I have created a pattern for the body. I have also embellished the body with little roses. I then felted her, and when she dries I will stuff her, embroider a face (we’ll see how that goes, as embroidery is one craft that eludes me), and then make her a head covering/shawl. I like how her body turned out and I like how the proportions came out as desired, upon felting.
I’ll show you my progress as I move forward…
