I LOVE these socks!! I just totally love them. They are fun to make, they feel great they are super cool, there is nothing about them I don’t like. The pattern is free. See, nothing I don’t like about these socks! The toe is cool the stripey bottom is cool, the mosaic pattern is cool, Eames is cool, the little heel flap is cool, everything is cool! This yarn is great. It’s Maizy, by Crystal Palace Yarns, and is made 82% of corn fiber and 18% of elastic nylon. It’s very fun to knit with.
In my whole, no one wants to be a friend to small business vein from yesterday, there was an article in my local paper I found upsetting. I totally understand the concept that our food should be safe and that people can be unscrupulous, while others can fall unwittingly, as prey, to these folks, but seriously, a local chicken farmer whose whole life’s ambition is all about sustainability and good care for his animals is not the one who is likely to have unhealthy birds that could be harmful for human consumption. Yet those folks are not permitted to sell their meat in the Portsmouth, NH Farmers Market. Note that every major grocery store in Portsmouth contains meat from the millions of birds every year which are raised in square foot bins, never to see daylight, engineered to fatten in 8 weeks, and fed who knows what to do that crazy fattening (by the way, a normal healthy chicken should fatten to “market” weight in closer to 4 months). Those are perfectly safe to eat because some USDA rep has approved that farm. Blech… No one wants to be friends with the small business, or in this case, the small farmer. This is why people need to know where their food comes from and buy local, from people who have a face. Be a friend to the small farmer, you will benefit in so many ways!

Wow! That story about the chicken farmer is very unsettling. I’ve been more aware of where my food comes from lately. I wish we had the funds to buy only organic. You’ve inspired me to search out some local markets in my hometown. Thanks!
The sock is beautiful, by the way. I love the 2 shades of blue.
I’m glad you’ve been inspired. I hope you find some great sources in your area. I had a delightful time at my local market today! I think that one by one, as more people become aware, the more that will be done to change the current industrial system. That would be real progress.
Thank you for the kind words about the socks. I’m having a lot of fun with them.
love this toe, have been searching for a rounded toe on a toe-up, love your blog, I’m just starting…thanks
