Here is the picture of the, no longer, top secret project…by the way the dad liked it so much that he said he’d like one for himself to go hiking in. It’s so fun to make things for people who are excited about them! Thank you, Luke and Sara, for a lovely evening!

The sweater was made from a lovely blue with hints of red, in Ultra Alpaca. It was made from a pattern from Natural Knits for Babies and Moms. I made the size “Up to 6 months” which used almost exactly 1 skein of the yarn. It had enough left over that you weren’t panicking at the end, but not so much that you feel the need to find a project to use up the rest.
I also started some mittens today. I found this great pattern online, which was free with the understanding that you’d make at least one pair for charity. Perfect, I wanted to do that anyway. I live in Cold NH, and this year with the fuel prices lots of folks are going to be struggling to keep their homes and families warm. I know there will likely be more horror stories of crazy things happening while trying to keep warm and I feel, already, for people who will have to go to extreme measures to survive this winter. I’m excited to be able to knit some warm items to keep people a bit cozier this year. I absolutely love this very cool shade of burgundy/wine from Lamb’s Pride that my favorite LYS carries in the Chunky version of the yarn (the yarn is only in $6.00-$7.00 range, so not too crazy. I’m hoping to get two pair, but we’ll see how that goes.) The Lamb’s Pride is exactly what the pattern calls for, on 10.5″ needles, so it should be pretty quick. I think these are going to be insanely warm and the pattern calls for the arm part to be 9″ long so it really covers the hand and a good portion of the forearm! Anyone want to join me in knitting a pair?

If you are interested, there is a group who is working on getting hand knit items to families in Northern Maine, who will need them. You can find them here: Nest:Bringing warmth home. They are looking for wool items before September 1. I think these mittens will knit up quickly enough to make a few pairs by then, followed by some for my family before the snow flies!

You’re SO welcome for a wonderful evening…although I think it was our company that made the evening so wonderful!
