I have loved the bag I made myself a few months ago. I used the idea by Lotta Jansdotter, in her book Lotta Jansdotter’s Simple Sewing: Patterns and How-To for 24 Fresh and Easy Projects. I love the book, there are so many simple creations calling to be made. The bag has become a bit shabby, and over the months I have learned it’s weak points, as well, so a new bag has been created.
I started, again, with the same basic plan, but added two big pockets inside, a button closure, longer handles, and I made it all with a very fun, bright Amy Butler Print and some FABULOUS cotton velvet, purchased years ago at a local fabric shop. The shop is truly a wonderful place for the garment fabric shopper. The owner goes to New York a few times a year to buy end bolts of fabric from designers, among other exciting finds. She brings them all back, stores them in a big warehouse and sells them off yard by VERY generous yard to the many who travel near and far to partake of the amazing deals to be had on some of the finest quality fabrics to be found anywhere. There are embroidered silks, soft and supple wools, sexy blouse fabrics, and even some unique trims are available from time to time. If you live in the New England area, or will be visiting, the shop is located in Manchester, NH and is called The Fabric Fix. It is worth the trip!
Well, here is the new bag. I LOVE it, and I feel very spoiled as the fabric feels so decadent! I made it while listing to Barbara Kingsolver read the first couple chapters of her book, “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life“. I am sure the audible accompaniment added to the feelings I had, but I was so loving creating a needful item in my own home, that would ultimately be nicer then anything I could have bought, and would, hopefully, suit my needs perfectly. A very nice feeling, indeed.
Baby gift update:
Kristin socks…one almost done. It’s so tiny! I love it. I just need to work the toe, and I can start the other. It hasn’t been frustrating at all, either, so that is good.
It’s nice to be blogging again, and to be doing it with what I did TODAY, since that is the point of the blog! I am hoping to complete the refinishing of a piece of furniture for my daughter’s room this week. I will have pictures of that and more information to follow.
